CBA Elects Michael Cleary of Santander to Board of Directors

Banker with years of consumer banking experience nominated to serve the interests of consumers and small businesses

Washington, D.C. – The Consumer Bankers Association’s (CBA) Board of Directors today elected Michael Cleary, head of Santander Bank N.A.’s consumer and business banking, to serve on its board. During a time when consumers need increased access to credit and the industry needs regulatory balance, Cleary’s addition to the CBA board reaffirms the association’s commitment to advancing the retail banking industry’s critical role in 2017 at the federal and congressional levels.

About Michael Cleary

Before leading Santander’s consumer and business banking unit, Michael was group executive vice president and head of U.S. Distribution for Consumer Banking at RBS Citizens Financial Group, Inc., where he was a member of the executive committee and the executive leadership group. Prior to Citizens, Michael spent 13 years with JPMorgan Chase & Co. in various leadership roles, including membership on the JPMorgan executive committee, CEO of business banking, chief marketing officer for retail banking, chief operating officer for retail banking, head of Chase Private Client and president of Originally from Massachusetts, Cleary received a degree from Princeton University and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth.
