CBA Elects New Members to Board of Directors
Three Senior Retail Banking Executives to Help Shape Priorities and Direction of CBA

Washington, D.C. (June 18, 2014) – Today, the Consumer Bankers Association’s Board of Directors approved three new members to join the Board. Joining the Board are Michael J. Aust – Comerica Bank, Nitin Mhatre – Webster Bank, and Maria Tedesco – Santander. CBA's 20-member board of senior retail banking executives guides the organization in its support of and advocacy for the retail banking industry, which provides banking services to America’s consumers and small businesses.

“Our Board of Directors is absolutely vital to the strength and knowledge of CBA. Their keen insights, developed over many years as senior executives at their institutions, and guidance has positioned our organization as the voice of the retail banking industry. We are proud of the caliber of the additions of Mike, Nitin, and Maria, as well as their commitment to the industry and consumers,” said CBA’s President and CEO Richard Hunt.

“I am pleased to announce the addition of our newest Board members and am excited to work with them on behalf of the retail banking industry. CBA is an organization which is growing, vibrant and consistently viewed as the leading advocate for America’s retail banking industry,” said CBA’s Board of Directors Chairman Andy Harmening of Bank of the West.

In addition, Nuno Matos of Santander will be departing CBA’s Board of Directors.

“I would like to thank Nuno for his support of and service to CBA. While he is departing our Board to return to Santander’s headquarters in Spain, his contributions will remain for years to come,” added Hunt.

About CBA’s newest Board Members:

Michael J. Aust, Executive Vice President, Director of Retail Banking – Comerica Bank
Michael J. Aust is responsible for the Retail Banking line of business, Retail distribution channels (Banking Centers and Contact Centers), Retail Operations and Support, Retail Product and Sales Management, the Quality Process Department and Comerica Loan Center. His previous responsibilities included management of the National Retail Banking and Retail Operations and Administration. Mike joined Comerica in August 2005 from National City where he served in various retail banking leadership roles with the bank; including Director of Community Banking, Director of Consumer Lending and Operations and Market Executive for Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio. Before this, he served with Fifth Third in their retail banking, commercial lending, and venture capital areas. Mike is a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.  

Nitin Mhatre, Executive Vice President, Consumer Finance – Webster Bank
Nitin Mhatre joined Webster in October 2008 as Executive Vice President, Consumer Lending of Webster Bank and was appointed Executive Vice President, Consumer Finance in January 2009. Prior to this, Nitin worked at Citigroup in St. Louis, Missouri and Stamford, Connecticut in various capacities. In his most recent position, he was the Managing Director for the Home Equity Retail business for CitiMortgage based in Stamford, Connecticut. Prior to that, he was Director, Cards Cross-Sell and Portfolio Management for CitiMortgage based in St. Louis, Missouri, Marketing Director for Citibank Guam, Product management head for Mass affluent & Diners Club Cards for Citibank, India based in Chennai, India and Cards Sales Manager for Citibank India based in Mumbai, India. Nitin earned his bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering and his MBA at Bombay University in India.

Maria Tedesco, Managing Director of Retail Banking – Santander
Maria Tedesco served in a variety of positions at Providence-based Citizens Bank, most recently as group executive vice president and head of retail banking. She brings to Santander more than 25 years of experience in retail and business banking in the U.S. northeast. Maria is active in numerous charitable and professional organizations, including the Girl Scouts of America's Leading Women Event, Project Bread, and the Small Business Working Group. In 2012, she was named one of the Most Powerful Team-Leading Women in Banking by American Banker.
