Obviously the big news this week is the merger of BB&T and SunTrust . Knowing both Kelly King and Bill Rogers for years, I recount many of my conversations with them separately. At last year’s CBA Executive Banking School, Kelly stated BB&T would not buy an out of market bank, and would rather buy a larger bank than a smaller bank because of compliance. And Bill told me he was not going...

This week I visited great CBA member Bank of Hawaii in Honolulu, HI where I met with President & CEO Peter Ho, a number of Managing Committee Members in addition to CBA Standing Committee Members. It was a great opportunity to hear first-hand their successes and challenges, and discuss hot button issues in the retail banking industry from how other CBA members are handling the Government...

CBA launched a special " Contact Your Bank " page on our website dedicated to helping educate customers and the public on ways banks are assisting furloughed federal workers. Cajun Thoughts: In my estimation, today is Day 1 of the partial government shutdown as this is the day about 800,000 workers will not receive their paycheck. This shutdown has a much different feel compared to the one in 2013, and even the one in 1995. Both good and bad. First, it is a partial, not complete, shutdown. Obviously, this is still very important, especially to those directly affected...

Carper, Sen. Sinema, Sen. Cramer, Rep. Hollingsworth , Rep. Beatty , Rep. Meeks , and Rep. Graves . This is one of my favorite days of the year as our democracy once again prevails with a peaceful transition...

Cajun Thoughts: HOLIDAY WEEK Today begins one of my favorite weeks of the year, where I head down to Jennings, Louisiana to spend time with my mother, three older sisters and more than 10 nieces and nephews. As always, I will be visiting Walmart, Sonic, Boudin King and the 14 payday lenders. I hope all of you have time to spend with your families as we prepare for 2019 … WHAT’S IN A NAME I never...

Cajun Thoughts: The Marriott breach has the potential to be one of the largest breaches in the U.S., and, yet, has not received the same volume of media coverage as others even though 500 million customers were affected. Just a reminder, retailers do not have the same GLBA standards banks have, and it is time Congress creates a level playing field on behalf of consumers… New BCFP Director …As you...
